Hammer class (Phobos class)

← Library index

Hammer-class ships are the warships of Phobos Station. Enemies usually call them the Phobos class. Phobos itself prefers Hammer, because other nations have their own classes.

Design

Hammer-class ships are known for a completely forward-facing design, born of the clan habit of never turning your back on an enemy. All their guns fire forward: they have no side broadsides like other ships, and no front turret like a corvette. Firepower and heavy armour sit on the prow, and every other side is vulnerable. It is the Martian mentality in steel: always face the foe, and fight aggressively.

Escorts

Phobos flotillas fly Boomerang escorts.

On Sovereign hulls

Plenty of Martian flotillas still fly stock Sovereign-class ships. Their crews keep the Phobos temperament all the same: a Phobos flotilla stays a bit more willing to hold the fight longer, whether it flies Hammer-class ships or Sovereign ones. See Sovereign class.

Names

Martian ships carry the prefix MS and strong words: Strength, Dignity, Power, Endurance, Beast. See Ship names.
